This workshop can be taken alone, but ideally follows “Intro to 2SLGBTQIA+ Identities and Communities Workshop” unless participants already have similar foundational training that explores 2SLGBTQIA+ identities.

Description

In this workshop, participants will explore barriers and challenges experienced by 2SLGBTQIA+ colleagues in the workplace and identify actions they can take to “lead from where they are” to support inclusion in their workplace.

Participants will explore proactive measures that contribute to a supportive and inclusive environment, and effective ways to respond to exclusionary language or behaviours.

Scenario based learning provides an opportunity to practice real-life situations and complete the workshop with greater confidence to act as an ally at work. After this workshop, participants will be able to contribute towards making their workplace a more inclusive and supportive space.

Structure

Section 1: Foundations

  • Importance of workplace inclusion
  • Impacts of bias and discrimination on individuals and the workplace

Section 2: Supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ Team Members

  • Enabling and supporting spaces of inclusion and belonging
  • Leading from where you are: Being an ally in the workplace

Section 3: Putting it into Practice

  • Participatory scenarios: Allyship in the workplace
  • Planning for Action

Program Facilitators:

This program has been developed with and is delivered by a specialized network of facilitators with expertise in 2SLGBTQIA+ issues. Facilitators identify as belonging to 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and draw on lived experience as well as their professional expertise in delivery of this workshop.
